Atlante and WFW star in “Mission E-Mobility Italy: on the road to transition”

Rome, 6 June 2023 – The event “Mission E-Mobility Italy: on the road to transition,” organized by Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”), in collaboration with Atlante (a company of NHOA Group) and sponsored by ALIS, E-Charge, Eolica Mediterranean, and ZeroEmission, has just concluded in Rome. The debate was attended by public institutions and private companies who openly discussed achieving common goals for a sustainable future.

The event was held at the headquarters of ALIS, the Logistic Association of Sustainable Intermodality, which has more than 2,200 member companies, including Watson Farley & Williams and Atlante, that share the same vision of sustainable development for the next generations, working for a truly cleaner and emission-free world.

This momentous challenge requires a systemic approach and continuous dialogue between the institutional, scientific, business, and cultural worlds. The Roman meeting goes precisely in this direction by bringing the most active players on decarbonization issues to the same table as the institutions responsible for planning policies in this area. Only a joint effort, in fact, can make Italy hit the transport decarbonization goals, making the most of the considerable resources allocated by the PNRR, in line with the actions envisaged by government regulations and policies within the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals contained in the 2030 Agenda at the global level.

After introductory greetings by Marcello Di Caterina, General Manager and Vice President ALIS, Eugenio Tranchino, Managing Partner Watson Farley & Williams, and Stefano Terranova, CEO of Atlante, institutional greetings were given by: Galeazzo Bignami, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in a video message and, in attendance, Salvatore Deidda, President of the Transport Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.

The work then continued with two panels, composed of experts from the public and private sectors, who took stock of the current situation in the country through the analysis of practical cases and new regulatory developments. The protagonists of both panels were Watson Farley & Williams, a leading international law firm specializing in the energy, infrastructure, and transportation sectors, and Atlante, a company of NHOA Group (NHOA.PA, formerly Engie EPS) that is developing the largest fast and ultra-fast charging network for electric vehicles in Southern Europe, fully integrated with the grid and powered by renewable energy. The company aims to install 5,000 charging points in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal by 2025 and more than 35,000 by 2030.

During the first panel of the event, “Dialogue between Institutions and Business,” the discussion was moderated by Roberto d’Antonio, news director of ALIS Channel. The panel included speakers such as Stefano Terranova, CEO of Atlante, Giannalberto Mazzei, Partner at Studio Legale WFW, Fabrizio Penna, Department Head in charge of the Mission Unit for the PNRR of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, Pino Musolino, President of the Port System Authority of the Central-Northern Tyrrhenian Sea, Antonio Fraccari, General Manager at ADR Mobility Srl, and Gianni Bechelli, President of Autolinee Toscane.

According to Stefano TerranovaCEO of Atlante: “The transition to electric mobility represents an opportunity to grow for the entire automotive supply chain in Italy. For example, charging infrastructures in our country already exceed 41,000, with a rate of more than 300 installations every week. This is thanks to the commitment of many companies and thousands of professionals. In Atlante, we are doing our part to meet Italy’s transportation decarbonization goals. Now, however, on the recharging infrastructure front, we need timely action from policy makers to ground the over 700 million euros earmarked in the PNRR for the installation of more than 21,000 high-powered recharging stations, capable of setting in motion investments above 2 billion euros. For our part, we will continue to support local governments in all coordination activities to implement infrastructure to ensure electric mobility for all.”

Giannalberto MazzeiPartner at WFW considered: “In recent years, Italy has made significant progress in developing public charging infrastructures. However, it is now crucial for local public authorities to work with operators and distribution managers to plan future investments effectively.”

The event, “Mission E-Mobility Italy: On the Road to Transition,” then ended with the second panel, “Supply Chain Operators and Technological Challenges,” moderated by ALIS Channel journalist Benedetta Piscitelli, which featured Marc-Oliver Rossi, CCO Italy of Atlante, Arianna Neri, Senior Associate Studio Legale WFW, Barbara Biondani, Managing Director of AGSM AIM SMART SOLUTIONS, Juan Ortiz Noval, Head of Network Development E-Distribuzione, Carlo Ferri, Head of Commercial Innovation Hera Group, Antonino Azzarello, Group Commercial Director Estra SpA, Ciro Papa, E-Mobility Manager Stellantis, and Fabrizio Ciaccia, Senior Business Development Manager NHOA Energy.

Marc-Oliver Rossi explained how Atlante, although a young company officially born at the end of 2021, has the tremendous technological know-how, a passionate team, well-established roots as part of the NHOA Group and launched during Stellantis EV Day 2021 as a preferred network. In just one year, this path has experienced exponential growth that surpassed even the most optimistic expectations. By the end of Q1 2023, there were 2,600 Stellantis charging points online and under construction in Southern Europe.

Following the event, Avv. Eugenio Tranchino, Managing Partner of WFW in Italy, concluded with a message of hope: “Today’s event was an important moment of confrontation between leading representatives of institutions and primary market players. The hope is that what was discussed today will translate into incisive action to stimulate and plan electric mobility in our country.”
